Granite 4.2はdense reasoning familyとして公開

IBM Granite teamは2026年8月25日、Hugging Face上でGranite 4.2 language modelsの構成を公開しました。Granite 4.2は3B、8B、30Bの3 sizesからなるdense decoder-only reasoning LLMsです。約15 trillion tokensでfrom scratchにpre-trainされ、five-phase strategyでcontext windowを512K tokensへ拡張したと説明されています。supervised fine-tuningではchain-of-thought、reasoning、agentic-trajectory dataを使い、その後multi-stage reinforcement learning pipelineでpost-trainされています。

8Bと30Bはagentic RLとtool callingに対応

原文では、3B、8B、30Bが共通のtraining pipelineを持ちつつ、8Bと30Bにはagentic RL blockが追加されると説明されています。このblockでは、toolsを呼び出し、codeを編集して実行し、terminalを使い、webをsearchするagent動作をreal sandboxed environments内で学習します。全modelはthinking、non-thinking、low-effort thinkingの切り替えを持ち、native tool callingに対応します。vLLMなどのOpenAI-compatible endpointからはOpenAI function-calling formatでtool callsを出せるとしています。

open model運用の確認項目が増える

企業がGranite 4.2のようなopen modelsを検討する場合、parameter sizeやApache 2.0 licenseだけでは判断できません。long contextを本当に使うにはKV cache、memory、latency、serving stackが制約になります。agentic RL済みmodelを業務で使う場合は、tool schema、権限境界、sandbox、失敗時のhuman review、audit logを整える必要があります。thinking modeは難問で有用な一方、costとresponse timeを押し上げるため、taskごとのmode selectionも設計対象になります。

量子化とserving recipeの検証が次の焦点

Granite 4.2はSGLangのcookbookやTransformersでの利用例も示していますが、本番導入ではFP8、FP4、GGUFなどのquantization choicesで品質が変わる可能性があります。OpenAI-compatible endpointで動くことはagent harnessとの接続を容易にしますが、tool callingの形式互換、streaming、並列実行、長文historyのtruncationを自社環境で試す必要があります。公開情報を起点に、target workloadでの評価、security review、license確認を分けて進めるのが現実的です。
